About me

I graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in visual arts with a concentration in photography, and went on to study Graphic Design at Algonquin College.

I started my career as a desktop publisher producing logos, letterhead and advertising for local businesses. Being in Ottawa, I transitioned my career to focus on government, and used my education and skills to land a role as a Graphic Designer, and eventually became a group manager for my department where I was in charge of monitoring the design duties of our team. I then went on to learn 3D modeling for a new Fastrack office they were building within the department.

With the Internet quickly expanding it’s scope and reach, my career transitioned into providing consulting services for the government. Many departments required expertise in ensuring their code was compliant with government standards, specifically ensuring the Common Look and Feel (CLF) standards for all government websites were strictly followed.

As a consultant, my services expanded to include the role of Web Architect for new projects in various departments. I also acted as project coordinator which included managing and supervising their web teams during the transition phase, and training their employees how to comply with the CLF standards.

As Social Media developed, there was a new focus on understanding the users needs and requirements to ensure a positive experience when they visited a client’s website. To be able to fulfill this new imperative role, I went on to study Interactive Multimedia at Algonquin College in a post graduate program, which introduced me to video editing, multimedia projects and Flash animation.

My recent work experience managing social media groups has allowed me to develop and focus not only on the graphic design aspects of a website, but to also ensure overall functionality, and a positive user experience.

For the last several years I have focused my career as a UI (User Interface) / UX (User Experience) Designer, incorporating my vast knowledge and experience with web design and development to help increase business success.
